Boots is a work in progress that I’ve been coming back to for a few years.
I had originally been hand carving spoons out of cured pine branches and
started working on something bigger. Working with an Arbortech wood carving
disc and loosely following the paper trail of sketches, I began working on a
carved chair with animalistic legs.
During this period, I delved into metal casting at a local foundry, which inspired the concept of Cast Aluminium Boots to cap the chair legs, imparting the impression of legs and feet.
The boots where modeled off a woman’s boot designed by Acne using terracotta
clay and granite stones. The boot was then scanned and a stem was modeled
into the design as a connection point to the leg base. A 3D print was taken to
the foundry and out walked its cast aluminium
counterpart.
