The Butter Series started as a sequence of acrylic paintings and sketches. The design intent was to create a collection of vessels that could intrigue the viewer through purpose whilst eluding them of its material. Having worked with foam and resins in boat building and previous furniture pieces, the transition from paint to these materials was more or less coherent. Expander foam is a fluid material to sculpt with and allows a lot of control with a reduction in waste. Pouring the two part liquid into molds, the vessels take shape very quickly and with almost instant curing times can be further shaped and modified.
