Blue Drip was commissioned by Meg and Jack in Sydney, Australia. Envisioning an abstract piece of furniture serving as a Hifi station, we traded napkin sketches deliberating on dimensions, materials and colour. Blue drip accommodates over 60 records on its lower shelf with fiberglass reinforced polystyrene foam. The upper level serves as a platform for a record player & speakers and is also reinforced with fiberglass. The foam segments were hand sculpted using a hot wire cutter, grinder and rasps. Held in place by locating pins the multiple pieces are left separate until both parties are satisfied with the final form. After gluing and reinforcing with fiberglass cloth the unit underwent structural testing ensuring adequate strength was accomplished.
